What can I grow here? When do I start? What does this plant need, and what do I do with the harvest?
The Great Canadian Garden Bible is being developed to connect those questions in one practical reference, with Canadian conditions in mind. You can enter through a region, a plant family, a planting window or the food you want to grow.
The current reader manuscript covers 191 food-crop groups and twenty planting guilds. Downloadable PDF and hardcover editions are planned. Final printing specifications, publication date and price remain to be confirmed.

A measured two-bed plan, a first-season planting table, a complete two-page lettuce profile and a blank bed record you can print.
The free 11-page PDF also includes climate guidance, original manuscript page references and credits. Try the plan against the space and season you actually have, then use the blank record to sketch your own next step.
PDF · 11 pages · No email required. A development preview, not a finished book or a field-tested yield promise. Publication review and editing are still pending. The book is not yet for sale.

This is page 6, “Using this growing reference,” from the actual reader manuscript. It shows how to enter the book with the question you have, rather than reading it from beginning to end.
Explore this navigation preview: choose one crop you would like to eat. Which route would you use to find it: its name, planting window or your region? This navigation page shows how the reference is organised; it is not a crop-growing demonstration.

When Tyler was growing up, someone was making mustard relish, preserving beets and beans, or quietly repairing something another person needed. His grandparents, Phyllis and Bob, made resourcefulness and care part of daily life.
The book carries those roots into a beginner’s experience. Its purpose is to make the basic questions welcome and give people enough understanding to adapt what they learn to their own place.
“Plant something you want to eat.
Learn what helps it grow.
And when you have enough, share a little.”
Tyler Clark · The Great Canadian Garden Bible foreword
Garden is Book 1 of The Great Canadian Homestead Series. The Livestock Bible and Off-Grid Bible now also have substantial manuscripts, connecting animal care with buildings, energy, water and workshop services.
All three have substantial reader manuscripts revised 19 October 2026. Independent subject review, editing, final production checks and physical print proofs remain part of the publication work. These are development editions, not independently validated retail manuals or approved construction plans.
